wikipedia: Amazon Dynamo: Dynamo is a proprietary, highly available key-value structured storage system or a distributed data store. It has properties of both databases and distributed hash tables (DHTs). Amazon DynamoDB exposes a similar data model and derives its name from Dynamo, but has a different underlying implementation. Dynamo had a multi-master design requiring the client to resolve version conflicts whereas DynamoDB has a single master design.
